Once again, a photography competition organized by IANOS has brought me a wonderful distinction! This time, in the 9th IANOS Photography Competition, themed “Nature with Broken Wings,” my photograph “There Is Always Hope” won Third Prize.

My photograph functions as a contemporary allegory of absence and longing. Through the lens, an ancient myth is transported to the present day: a tiny flower, sprouting between the cold tiles of a bathroom behind a locked window, becomes my Persephone. It symbolizes her confinement in the Underworld by Hades, within a hostile and sterile environment.
Yet, hope does not fade. The light piercing through the closed glass embodies Demeter – maternal love, memory, and life itself that refuses to surrender to the darkness. Even filtered, this light reaches her lost daughter as a silent promise of return.
The window remains closed, reminding us that the time for liberation has not yet arrived. There is, however, anticipation and waiting.
This little flower, managing to survive on such an out-of-place surface, becomes a living beacon for all of us. It reminds us that no matter how difficult the circumstances around us become, there is always hope, and spring will always return.
The photography exhibition is hosted at the IANOS Cultural Space (24 Stadiou Str.) and will run until November 5, 2026.
