Πώς γεννήθηκε η ιδέα για το Λεύκωμα «Αναμνήσεις στη σκόνη»;
Το λεύκωμα «Αναμνήσεις στην Σκόνη» συνοδεύει τις φωτογραφικές εκθέσεις «Από το Βορρά στο Νότο – Στα χνάρια της μνήμης», ένα οδοιπορικό σε χώρους που κάποτε έσφυζαν από παιδικές φωνές ‒ τα δημοτικά σχολεία της Ελλάδας, της Κύπρου και της Σμύρνης.
Δεν φωτογράφισα αυτά τα σχολεία για να τα καταγράψω με έναν αυστηρά τεκμηριωμένο τρόπο. Το έκανα γιατί ένιωσα την ανάγκη να διασώσω κάτι άυλο ‒ τη μνήμη τους, τη ζεστασιά που κάποτε είχαν, το αποτύπωμα των ανθρώπων που πέρασαν από εκεί.
Δεν με ενδιαφέρει να δει κάποιος τη φωτογραφία μου και να πει «τι ωραία σύνθεση». Θέλω να δει τη φωτογραφία και να πει «θυμάμαι». Να του φέρει κάτι πίσω, να τον ταράξει λίγο.
Η ιδέα για το Λεύκωμα «Αναμνήσεις στη σκόνη» γεννήθηκε από την ανάγκη να δημιουργηθεί κάτι που να ξεπερνά το εφήμερο. Ήθελα οι φωτογραφίες να αποκτήσουν διάρκεια, να συνεχίσουν να ζουν και όταν σβήσουν τα φώτα των εκθέσεων. Είναι ένας τόπος συνάντησης: της εικόνας, της μνήμης, του συναισθήματος. Σαν να κρατάς στα χέρια σου ένα κομμάτι της μνήμης, αποτυπωμένο σε χαρτί. Είναι ένα Λεύκωμα που μπορείς να το κρατήσεις, να το ξεφυλλίσεις, να το έχεις δίπλα σου.
Είχα την τιμή και τη χαρά και θέλω να τους ευχαριστήσω θερμά, να τύχω της υποστήριξης της Περιφερειακής Ενότητας Χανίων, του Δήμου Καντάνου-Σελίνου και του Δήμου Πλατανιά για την έκδοση του λευκώματος «Αναμνήσεις στη σκόνη».
How was the idea for the album Memories in the Dust born?
The album “Memories in the Dust” accompanies the photographic exhibitions “From North to South – In the Footsteps of Memory”, a journey through places that once pulsed with children’s voices — the primary schools of Greece, Cyprus, and Smyrna.
I didn’t photograph these schools in order to document them in a strictly factual way. I did it because I felt the need to preserve something intangible — their memory, the warmth they once held, the imprint of the people who passed through them.
I’m not interested in someone looking at my photograph and saying “what a beautiful composition.” I want them to look at it and say “I remember.” I want it to bring something back to them, to stir them a little.
The idea for the album “Memories in the Dust” was born from the need to create something that surpasses the ephemeral. I wanted the photographs to gain permanence, to keep living even after the exhibition lights go out. It is a meeting place: of image, memory, and emotion. Like holding a piece of memory in your hands, imprinted on paper. It’s an album you can hold, leaf through, keep beside you.
