Ο φωτογράφος και καθηγητής στην δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση Νίκος Μπασιάς, είναι γνωστός για τις καλλιτεχνικές του δημιουργίες με τον φωτογραφικό φακό για τις οποίες έχει βραβευτεί πολλές φορές σε ελληνικούς και διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς.
«Το βράδυ της Κυριακής 10 Αυγούστου, η μικρή παραθαλάσσια Σούγια φόρεσε τα γιορτινά της για τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης φωτογραφίας «Από το Βορρά στο Νότο – Στα Χνάρια της Μνήμης» στη νεοσύστατη LOTOS Open Art Gallery. Και δεν μιλάμε για μια τυπική έκθεση – μιλάμε για μια τολμηρή καλλιτεχνική πρόκληση: ανοιχτός χώρος, δίπλα στην παραλία, διαθέσιμος όχι για μια μέρα, αλλά μέχρι το τέλος του μήνα.
Ήταν ένα τριπλό πείραμα. Πώς είναι να στήσεις μια έκθεση που να αντέχει στον αέρα, το αλάτι και τον χρόνο; Πώς θα αντιδράσει ένα κοινό που δεν έχει ξαναζήσει κάτι τέτοιο; Και κυρίως, πόσο «ανοιχτός» μπορεί να είναι ένας χώρος τέχνης;
Η απάντηση ήρθε… μεταμεσονύχτια. Μετά τις 2:15 π.μ., όταν τα περισσότερα μαγαζιά είχαν κατεβάσει ρολά, η έκθεση άρχισε να γεμίζει επισκέπτες. Περιπατητές, θαμώνες και ξενύχτηδες έβρισκαν τον δρόμο τους στις φωτογραφίες, αποδεικνύοντας ότι η τέχνη δεν κοιμάται ποτέ.
Η LOTOS Open Art Gallery κέρδισε έτσι το στοίχημα. Και το “OPEN” δεν είναι απλώς όνομα – είναι υπόσχεση: Ανοιχτό σε ιδέες, ανοιχτό 24 ώρες το εικοσιτετράωρο.»

But this time he took a rather bold step as he created the LOTOS Open Art Gallery. An exhibition of works of art that is open to visitors 24 hours a day, and not in a big city, but in the small and beautiful seaside town of Sougia in the south of Eastern Selino.
“On the evening of Sunday, August 10th, the small seaside village of Sougia put on its festive attire for the opening of the photography exhibition ‘From North to South – In the Footsteps of Memory’ at the newly established LOTOS Open Art Gallery. And this was no ordinary exhibition – it was a daring artistic experiment: an open-air space, right by the beach, available not just for one day, but until the end of the month.
It was a triple experiment. What does it mean to set up an exhibition that can withstand the wind, the salt, and time itself? How will an audience react to something they’ve never experienced before? And above all, how “open” can an art space truly be?
The answer came… after midnight. Around 2:15 a.m., when most shops had long closed their doors, the exhibition began to fill with visitors. Strollers, regulars, and night owls found their way to the photographs, proving that art never sleeps.
Thus, the LOTOS Open Art Gallery won its bet. And the word “OPEN” is not just a name – it’s a promise: open to ideas, open 24 hours a day.”
