Φίλοι της τέχνης, κάτοικοι της περιοχής και πολυάριθμοι επισκέπτες κατέκλυσαν τον ξεχωριστό open-air χώρο της γκαλερί, δημιουργώντας μια ζεστή ατμόσφαιρα. Τα έργα απέσπασαν εξαιρετικές κριτικές για την εκφραστικότητά τους, την ιδιαίτερη αισθητική τους και τη μοναδική αποτύπωση του φωτός.
Τα έργα πραγματεύονται τη μυσταγωγία των παλιών παραδοσιακών ρακοκάζανων, αποτυπώνοντας τη ζωντανή αυτή ιεροτελεστία της κρητικής υπαίθρου. Μέσα από τις εικόνες αναδεικνύεται η αυθεντική ατμόσφαιρα γύρω από τη φωτιά, ο μόχθος της παραγωγής, αλλά και η βαθιά κοινωνική σημασία του εθίμου που φέρνει τους ανθρώπους κοντά, κρατώντας ζωντανή την παράδοση των προγόνων.
Όμως ο Νίκος Μπασιάς δεν σταματάει εδώ. Δημιουργεί μία πρωτότυπη σύμπραξη τεχνών δίπλα στο κύμα. Ντύνει τις εικόνες με μαντινάδες, που υμνούν τα παραδοσιακά ρακοκάζανα. Ο μοναδικός αυτός συνδυασμός εικόνας και λόγου αναδεικνύει με απόλυτη αρμονία την κρητική παράδοση, παντρεύοντας τη σύγχρονη φωτογραφική ματιά με τη λαϊκή ποίηση του τόπου.
Η βραδιά κυλούσε με πλούσιο κέρασμα και μια ξεχωριστή εμπειρία γευσιγνωσίας, καθώς οι παρευρισκόμενοι είχαν την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουν και να δοκιμάσουν διάφορες εκλεκτές ποικιλίες τσικουδιάς. Οι καλεσμένοι μυήθηκαν στα ιδιαίτερα αρώματα και τις γεύσεις του παραδοσιακού αποστάγματος, τσούγκρισαν τα ποτήρια τους και συζήτησαν σε κλίμα γιορτής.
Φεύγοντας, όλοι οι επισκέπτες πήραν μαζί τους ένα ξεχωριστό κομμάτι αυτής της γιορτής ως αναμνηστικό δώρο. Τους προσφέρθηκε ένα μικρό μπουκαλάκι τσικουδιάς, το οποίο συνοδευόταν από την αφίσα της έκθεσης και μια τυπωμένη μαντινάδα, κλείνοντας έτσι με τον πιο όμορφο και παραδοσιακό τρόπο μια αξέχαστη βραδιά.
Η έκθεση θα παραμείνει ανοιχτή για το κοινό στην υπαίθρια LOTOS Open Art Gallery έως τις 13 Σεπτεμβρίου. Η γκαλερί βρίσκεται δίπλα στη θάλασσα και λειτουργεί σε 24ωρη βάση, δίνοντας τη δυνατότητα στους επισκέπτες να απολαύσουν τα έργα τόσο κάτω από το φυσικό φως της ημέρας όσο και κάτω από τον προσεγμένο φωτισμό της κατά τη διάρκεια της νύχτας.

Art enthusiasts, local residents and numerous visitors filled the gallery’s distinctive open-air space, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The works received enthusiastic reviews for their expressive character, distinctive aesthetic and unique depiction of light.
The exhibition explores the mystique of the old traditional rakokazana—the copper stills used for the distillation of Cretan raki—capturing this living ritual of the Cretan countryside. Through his images, Basias highlights the authentic atmosphere surrounding the fire, the labour involved in the distillation process, as well as the profound social significance of a tradition that brings people together and keeps the heritage of previous generations alive.
But Nikos Basias does not stop there. Beside the sea, he creates an original dialogue between different art forms, dressing his photographs with mantinades—traditional Cretan rhyming couplets that celebrate the rakokazana. This unique combination of image and word brings Cretan tradition into focus with remarkable harmony, bringing together a contemporary photographic perspective with the island’s rich tradition of folk poetry.
The evening continued with generous hospitality and a special tasting experience, as guests had the opportunity to discover and sample a selection of fine varieties of tsikoudia, the traditional Cretan spirit. Visitors were introduced to the distinctive aromas and flavours of the spirit, raised their glasses in a toast and enjoyed conversations in a festive atmosphere.
As they left, all visitors took with them a special memento of the celebration. Each guest received a small bottle of tsikoudia, accompanied by the exhibition poster and a printed mantinada, bringing an unforgettable evening to a close in the most beautiful and authentically Cretan way.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at the outdoor LOTOS Open Art Gallery until September 13, 2026. Located beside the sea, the gallery is accessible 24 hours a day, allowing visitors to experience the works both in the natural light of day and under the gallery’s carefully designed lighting after nightfall.
