“Γνώρισα τον Νίκο Μπασιά στην πλατεία Πετρινού της Τρίπολης. Ήταν τότε που η φωτογραφία του με τη Μαντώ Μαυρογέρνους, στο πλαίσιο της δράσης tripolitsa iso200, με εντυπωσίασε με τη δημιουργικότητά της. Από εκείνη τη στιγμή κατάλαβα ότι πρόκειται για έναν άνθρωπο που βλέπει τον κόσμο με το βλέμμα του συλλέκτη μνήμης, όχι απλώς του φωτογράφου. Στις συζητήσεις μας φανέρωσε τη δημιουργική φαντασία του, μα και την ευφυΐα να μετατρέπει την εικόνα σε αφήγηση.
Ο φακός του Μπασιά είναι καταγραφικός, μα όχι ψυχρός. Με σεβασμό στο παρελθόν, καταγράφει τη φθορά χωρίς να την εκμεταλλεύεται ως «εικαστική» αφορμή. Είναι σαν να ακούει τις σκιές, να συνομιλεί με τις χαμένες παιδικές φωνές, να ψάχνει την αθωότητα που χάθηκε μαζί με την κιμωλία πάνω στον μαυροπίνακα.”

“I met Nikos Basias at Petrinou Square in Tripoli. It was then that his photograph with Manto Mavrogenous, part of the Tripolitsa ISO200 project, impressed me with its creativity. From that moment, I realized he was someone who views the world through the lens of a memory collector, not merely that of a photographer. In our conversations, he revealed his creative imagination, as well as the intelligence to transform an image into a narrative.
Basias’s lens is documentary, yet never cold. With respect for the past, he records decay without exploiting it as a mere “artistic” pretext. It is as if he listens to the shadows, converses with lost children’s voices, and searches for the innocence that vanished along with the chalk from the blackboard.”
